The Heartbeat of the Beverly Hills Basketball League Gratitude and a Warm Welcome

youth basketball

We can't begin without first extending our heartfelt gratitude to you for choosing to volunteer as a coach in our league. Your time, energy & effort, are gifts that resonate throughout our community. We immensely appreciate you being the cornerstone of this recreational, volunteer-driven league. We are all part of the same family and community, volunteering our time so our kids can lead active, fulfilling lives.

The Essence of Coaching in the BHBL

As a BHBL coach, you're not just a role model or a mentor, but an inspiration to every volunteer and player in our league. Our core objectives align with what you bring to the table:

Inspire and Motivate: Your presence inspires our youth and motivates them to do better and be better, week after week.

  • Sportsmanship and Character: You help instill these crucial life skills in our players, and this will extend far beyond this season of basketball.
  • Teaching Basketball: “A coach must never forget that he is a leader and not merely a person with authority.” -John Wooden
  • Community Building: You facilitate parent-child interactions, enriching our community.
  • Child Welfare: With you, we know the kids are in safe, responsible hands that put each player’s betterment before the number on the scoreboard.

Age Requirements and Mentor Coaches

All Head and Assistant Coaches must be at least 21 years old. Mentor coaches (ages 14-20, dependent on the division volunteering for) are welcome but must partner with a coach who meets the age requirement.

Mandatory Meetings

All volunteers must attend our Introductory Coaches Meeting and Positive Coaching Workshop. This is regardless of prior attendance or years of coaching. Dates are listed under "Important Dates."

Responsibilities and Expectations

We look to you to:

  • Foster Fun and Positivity: This is non-negotiable!
  • Attend Mandatory Meetings: Your input and presence are invaluable.
  • Complete a Coach's Application: This helps us keep track of our fantastic volunteer team.
  • Team Administration: Requesting a team parent to volunteer as the ‘Team Admin', can help facilitate communication, schedules, snacks, etc.
  • Initial Team Meeting: Set the tone for an enriching, enjoyable season.
  • Maintain High Standards: For yourself, your players, and all involved.
  • Zero Tolerance: Any unsportsmanlike conduct by any volunteer, player, family or spectator, has no place in our league.
  • Open Communication: We're here to support you. Feel free to reach out.

A Closing Note of Deep Appreciation

We're all here to see our players have fun, champion their smiles, be encouraged, be motivated, experience teamwork, and sign up to do it all over again! As a volunteer coach, you set a standard and example for everyone in our community. We are profoundly grateful for your contribution. Let's make this season another chapter in our ongoing community, friendship, and personal growth story.

Together, we play hard, play fair, and build lasting memories. Thank you for being a pivotal part of this journey!
